Ahmed bin Saeed attends graduation ceremony of Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences ‘Class of 2026’

His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Dubai Health and Chancellor of the Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU), attended the graduation ceremony of MBRU's Class of 2026, held yesterday at the Dubai World Trade Centre. The ceremony marked MBRU’s 10th anniversary.
MBRU, the heart of Dubai Health, which enables learning and discovery to advance health for humanity, celebrated 184 graduates from 40 academic programmes across various medical disciplines in its Class of 2026. The graduates represented the College of Medicine, Hind Bint Maktoum College of Nursing and Midwifery, Hamdan Bin Mohammed College of Dental Medicine, and the Deanship of Graduate Medical Education.
His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum congratulated the graduates and their families, praising their dedication and commitment throughout their academic journey. He emphasised the important role they will play in shaping the future of healthcare and in advancing the well-being of the communities they serve.
His Highness said: "MBRU’s achievements over the years have been made possible through the steadfast support of our leadership, who have positioned advancing health for humanity as a central pillar of sustainable development. This continued support has also been instrumental in equipping our health system to meet the evolving needs of the future.”
His Highness urged the graduates to remain committed to community service, while upholding the values and responsibilities of their profession. He encouraged them to pursue lifelong learning, strive for continuous professional growth, and play an active role in advancing the future of healthcare.
Her Excellency Dr. Raja Easa Al Gurg, Member of the Board of Directors of Dubai Health and Chairperson of the MBRU Council, said: "Since its establishment 10 years ago, MBRU has been committed to shaping generations of healthcare professionals who combine academic excellence, clinical expertise, and compassion. Today, we are proud to see this vision embodied in our graduates, who are well-equipped to make meaningful contributions to healthcare, research, and society.”
Her Excellency Aisha Miran, Director General of the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) in Dubai, delivered the commencement address, highlighting that the UAE’s leadership has long championed the principle that the true value of any achievement lies in its positive impact on people’s lives — a principle embodied every day by healthcare professionals through their service, compassion, and humanity.
Her Excellency noted that this year's graduation holds special significance as it coincides with the 10th anniversary of Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences. In just a decade, MBRU has established itself as a centre of excellence in medical education and scientific research, extending its impact far beyond the UAE.
Addressing the graduates, Her Excellency emphasised that the mission of medicine extends beyond treating disease to advancing knowledge and pursuing discoveries that improve people’s lives. She noted that while knowledge opens doors, compassion opens hearts, and that no matter how far science and technology advance, they can never replace the uniquely human qualities of empathy, integrity, listening, and genuine care.
His Excellency Dr. Amer Sharif, CEO of Dubai Health and President of MBRU, said: "As we celebrate 10 years since MBRU’s establishment, I extend my sincere appreciation to our leadership for their continued guidance and support, and to Dubai Health’s Board of Directors and everyone who has contributed to its journey, including faculty, professional services staff, researchers, and partners. Over the past decade, these collective efforts have helped establish the university as a cornerstone of our integrated academic health system, where Care, Learning, Discovery, and Giving come together to advance health for humanity.”
On behalf of the graduating Class of 2026, Dr. Mohammed Al Braiki, a graduate of the Doctor of Medicine programme, addressed the ceremony, saying that the graduates began their academic journey in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. These exceptional circumstances taught them the importance of adaptability and responsibility, while expanding their knowledge and reinforcing their commitment to serving patients, reflecting Dubai Health’s Patient First promise.
He also expressed his sincere gratitude to the UAE leadership for its continued support, and to MBRU’s administration and faculty for their guidance, encouragement, and vision, which helped students reach this important milestone. He further thanked the families of the graduates for their support and encouragement throughout their journey.
A decade of milestones and achievements
Since its establishment, MBRU has achieved numerous milestones that have strengthened its standing as a leading academic and healthcare institution.
In 2016, the university inaugurated its College of Medicine, laying the foundation for transformative clinical advancements including the launch of Dubai’s first organ transplant programme. Building on this momentum, in 2018, a medical team from MBRU and Dubai Health’s Al Jalila Children’s Hospital performed Dubai’s first pediatric kidney transplant and conducted the UAE’s first whole genome sequencing, marking a major breakthrough in clinical care and precision medicine.
In 2019, MBRU partnered with the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre to launch an advanced training programme in medicine and scientific research for astronauts, underscoring the university’s commitment to innovation and future-focused fields. This was followed, in 2020, by the establishment of the College of Nursing and Midwifery, alongside the launch of the Master of Science and Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences Programs, expanding opportunities for the education and development of future healthcare professionals.
In 2022, the university celebrated the graduation of the ‘Class of Khalifa’, which included the first graduates from both the College of Medicine and the College of Nursing and Midwifery. In 2025, the College of Nursing and Midwifery was named in honour of Her Highness Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum, in recognition of her enduring support for healthcare and education.
To date, MBRU has graduated more than 500 alumni across its academic programmes, with graduates securing residency positions at leading institutions globally, including Cleveland Clinic, Mayo Clinic, UMass Chan Medical School, and University of Toronto, among others.
The university has also made a significant contribution to scientific advancement, with more than 2,362 research publications in internationally peer-reviewed journals and the establishment of 10 research centres across diverse medical disciplines. These efforts reflect MBRU’s integrated approach to care, learning, and discovery, translating scientific knowledge into practical impact.
In parallel, MBRU has developed strategic academic and clinical partnerships with leading international institutions, including Queen’s University Belfast and Mediclinic, founded on a shared vision to advance medical education and research.

His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Health Board of Directors, along with His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Health Board of Directors, attended the graduation of the inaugural cohort of the Dubai Health Leadership Academy’s flagship Systems Leadership Program.
Delivered in partnership with the University of Oxford’s Saïd Business School, the Program celebrated the graduation of 40 graduates during a ceremony held at the Museum of The Future.
His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum congratulated the graduates, highlighting the importance of investing in leadership capabilities that can contribute to the development of the healthcare sector. “Guided by the vision of our leadership, Dubai is advancing the future of healthcare by developing leaders who can navigate rapid change and transform it into meaningful opportunities for growth and innovation,” he said. “I congratulate all the graduates whose leadership will shape the future of health in Dubai and advance the quality of care and life for our community,” His Highness added.
His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, said “We are proud to celebrate the graduation of the first cohort of the Dubai Health Leadership Academy’s Systems Leadership Program, delivered in partnership with Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford. Building future-ready leaders remains central to our journey toward a sustainable health system, one built on knowledge, innovation and care, and informed by leading global practices.”
The ceremony was also attended by Her Excellency Dr. Raja Easa Al Gurg, Member of the Dubai Health Board of Directors, Chairperson of the Al Jalila Foundation Board of Directors, His Excellency Dr. Alawi Alsheikh-Ali, Director General of the Dubai Health Authority; His Excellency Dr. Amer Sharif, CEO of Dubai Health and President of Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences; members of the Dubai Health Board of Directors; as well as Dr. Eleanor Murray, Academic Director and Senior Fellow in Management Practice at Oxford Saïd Business School, and Dr. Mark O’Brien, Program Director of the Systems Leadership Program and Associate Fellow at Oxford Saïd Business School.
His Excellency, Dr. Alawi Alsheikh-Ali, said: "The Systems Leadership Program stands as a powerful catalyst for transformation across our health system. It develops leaders who can navigate complexity, think holistically across the continuum of care, and champion the values at the heart of Dubai’s health sector. By strengthening the foundations of a resilient, people centered health system, we ensure excellence for our community today, while shaping a healthier, more sustainable future for our city and beyond."
His Excellency Dr. Amer Sharif, said: “This program was founded on the powerful idea that leadership in health must reflect the complexity and compassion of the system we serve. The Dubai Health Leadership Academy was designed with an ambitious purpose, to prepare leaders for a health system as dynamic as Dubai. Today our graduates are ready to carry that purpose forward.
He expressed his sincere gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum and His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum for their support of the program, noting that the knowledge and experience gained by the graduates will be applied across the Dubai Health system.
He also thanked the program partners; Emirates, Dubai Airports, and the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre, in recognition of their valuable contributions which elevated the program’s impact and continue to inspire Dubai Health’s transformation journey.
Commenting on the program, Dr. Eleanor Murray, said: “Witnessing this cohort reach graduation has been especially meaningful. The Systems Leadership Program brought together distinguished faculty and global experts who fostered thoughtful dialogue, encouraged reflection, and enriched participants’ understanding of leadership within complex health systems. Their Certificate of Completion, jointly endorsed by Dubai Health and Saïd Business School, formally recognises the comprehensive learning journey they have undertaken and the commitment they have shown throughout the program.”
Dr. Mark O’Brien said: “This graduation represents an important milestone for Dubai Health and Oxford Saïd Business School, reflecting a shared commitment to developing leaders who can drive transformation. Their progress throughout the program has been remarkable, and the capabilities they have developed will support Dubai’s continued pursuit of excellence and innovation for many years ahead.”
The Dubai Health Leadership Academy was launched in September 2024, alongside its inaugural Systems Leadership Program, delivered through a partnership with Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford, with the aim of cultivating leadership talent capable of contributing to the advancement of the healthcare sector. It was designed based on the expertise of academics and specialists from around the world, alongside best practices, and was developed in alignment with the priorities and initiatives of Dubai Health, which served as a cornerstone for learning throughout the duration of the program.
Over 14 months, delivered through four modules, participants applied their learning in practice, supported by personalised executive coaching and insights from experts at Oxford Saïd Business School.

His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Health and Chancellor of the Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU), attended the graduation ceremony of MBRU’s Class of 2025, the learning and discovery arm of Dubai Health, held at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
The ceremony honoured 164 graduates representing 30 academic programmes across the Hamdan Bin Mohammed College of Dental Medicine, Hind Bint Maktoum College of Nursing and Midwifery, the College of Medicine, and the Deanship of Graduate Medical Education.
The university also marked a key milestone with the graduation of the first cohort from Dubai’s only Biomedical Sciences PhD programme, along with six graduates from the new Postgraduate Diploma in Health Professions Education.
Enhancing healthcare capabilities
His Highness congratulated the graduates and their families, emphasising that the university continues to play a vital role in strengthening the healthcare sector by developing highly skilled professionals dedicated to driving positive and sustainable change in the community. He praised the graduates’ contributions to advancing the healthcare system and expanding its meaningful impact.
His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum said: "Under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, the emirate continues to establish itself as a global hub for excellence in medical education and research. Today, we take pride in the graduation of a new cohort of talented healthcare professionals who will support Dubai’s efforts to deliver an advanced model for healthcare."
His Highness, Chairman of Dubai Health and Chancellor of the Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU), urged the graduates to practice their noble profession with commitment and responsibility, stressing the importance of continuous learning, growth, and readiness to adapt to the evolving healthcare landscape in order to have a tangible impact on the lives of individuals and communities they serve.
Pride and honour
Dr. Raja Easa Al Gurg, Member of the Dubai Health Board of Directors and Chairperson of MBRU Council, stated: "The graduation of a new class of talented students marks a moment of immense pride and is a testament to the University’s commitment to empowering young talents and nurturing tomorrow’s leaders in healthcare."
She added: "Since its establishment nine years ago, under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, MBRU has progressed steadily in fostering a culture that champions excellence and innovation, preparing future generations to deliver innovative solutions that enhance quality of life, supporting the vision of the UAE and Dubai for a sustainable healthcare future."
His Excellency Professor Alawi Al-Sheikh Ali, Director General of the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and guest of honour, addressed the attendees during the ceremony, saying: "Our leadership’s commitment to human development and knowledge is not a recent endeavor, it is a deeply rooted legacy that has shaped the very identity of our nation. The late founding father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may his soul rest in peace, captured this vision when he said that building people must come before building factories, and that human development must precede infrastructure.
This wisdom dates back nearly a century, when the late Sheikh Saeed bin Maktoum sent the first student from Dubai to study medicine abroad, fully aware that investing in minds is the most valuable investment of all. This vision was carried forward through institutional progress, including a pivotal moment in October 1970, when the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum ordered the establishment of the Department of Health and Medical Services, with a strong focus on education and professional training."
In his address, Professor Dr. Alawi shared a series of inspiring messages with the graduates, reminding them that compassion lies at the heart of healthcare. He called on them to lead with humility, describing it as one of life’s greatest teachers, and to remain open to continuous learning and discovery. He encouraged them to uphold integrity, to trust in the moral compass rooted in their values, and reminded them that a person’s true worth is measured by their generosity and kindness to others.
Advancing discovery

We are also proud to mark a significant milestone with the graduation of our first PhD students, whose research has enriched the scientific landscape and contributed to advancing discovery within our health system. We are deeply proud of this cohort and confident in their ability to make a meaningful impact on healthcare. We wish them continued success as they carry forward our shared mission to advance health for humanity."
On behalf of the graduating Class of 2025, Dr. Sarah Tahlak addressed the audience during the ceremony, saying: “This day marks a pivotal milestone as we transition into the next chapter, as qualified physicians and healthcare professionals carrying forward a profound humanitarian mission.
Our years at MBRU have been filled with growth and learning. We now embrace the responsibility of serving our community with integrity, advancing purposeful scientific research, and contributing to collective progress. On behalf of my fellow graduates, I extend our heartfelt gratitude to our leaders, faculty, and families, who have inspired and guided us throughout this journey. We are committed to living up to the trust you’ve placed in us and to carrying our responsibility with dedication."
Since its founding in 2016, MBRU has contributed more than 1,800 scholarly studies, with 84% published in leading Q1 and Q2 indexed journals. The University has also earned a Group 1 ranking within the Ministry of Education’s National Higher Education Institutions Classification Framework.
It has also established five advanced research centres that drive healthcare innovation and scientific discovery: Center for Protein Engineering, Center for Innovation and Technology, Center for Microbial Sciences, Center for Applied and Translational Genomics, and Center for Space and Aviation Health.
