Specialized children's emergency care
At our Pediatric Emergency Medicine department at Al Jalila Children’s Hospital, we are here for your child and family 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We are here for you in case of any type of medical emergency or trauma, providing specialized emergency care for children - from birth to age 18.
Our doctors, nurses, and reception staff are not only experts in pediatric emergency care, but also dedicated to easing the stress and upset that any child emergency naturally brings. If you should need to visit us, have peace of mind that we are here to make the process as smooth as possible. Your child’s wellbeing is our priority, and we ensure their safety, comfort and reassurance at every step.
Wait times at our Emergency Department
We know waiting can be frustrating during a visit to the Emergency department - especially when it comes to your child. Our department can sometimes get very busy, and wait times depend on the number of child patients in the department, and how severe and urgent their cases are.
Please rest assured every child who comes to our department is important to us, and we aim to see them as quickly as possible. For children who are in a life-threatening condition, there is no wait time.
What happens at the Emergency Department
Step 1 - Report to reception immediately so that we know you are here.
Our friendly reception staff will check your child in so that you can be seen by a triage nurse as soon as possible.
Step 2 - Triage
One of our experienced triage nurses will assess your child and take details of their illness or injury to determine the severity of their condition. Depending on the nature of your child's condition, they may offer appropriate treatment at this stage.
Step 3 - Open your child's file
Once your child has been seen by a triage nurse, you or a family member will need to open a file at the reception desk. Depending on the urgency and severity of your child's condition, you may be referred for an immediate consultation with one of our emergency doctors.
Step 4 - Waiting area
You may have to wait for some time before seeing a doctor if there are other patients who are in critical condition or need more urgent medical attention. Please be assured that every child who visits our Emergency Department is extremely important to us, and your child will be seen as quickly possible. We ask you to be patient and considerate, as some children may be called before your child - even if they arrived after you - if they require more urgent medical intervention.
