Job Description
Y Medical invites applications for the position of Department Chair in the Pediatrics Practice. The Department Chair will serve for a 3-year term effective from the date of hire, renewable for a second term following a favorable review. Y Medical seeks a collaborative leader who will advance the care, learning, discovery, and giving missions of Y Medical, provide leadership to the department and its physicians, and be a role model of Y Medical values. The Department Chair will be supported in administrative matters by a Department Administrator. Together, the two will form a leadership team.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Exemplify Y Medical’s “Patient First” value through dedicated service to patients and their families;
- Oversee quality of care and process improvements ensuring compliance with evidence-based care standards;
- Manage physician clinical deployment and resourcing across health system locations;
- Promote a department culture that values high quality care, academic excellence, and innovation;
- Oversee medical education program development including the deployment of preceptors, supervisors, mentors, and advisers as needed by university programs;
- Coordinate research efforts within and across departments;
- Manage physicians and staff;
- Lead strategic planning for the department in alignment with Y Medical’s strategic direction;
- Oversee workforce planning; and
- Monitor financial and operational performance and help identify strategies to address variances or areas of concern.
Qualification and Experience Requirements
- Terminal degree (MD, DO, or equivalent).
- Medical board certification.
- Clinical privileges at Y Medical (i.e., active Y Medical clinical practice).
- Minimum of 5 years progressively complex experience that includes physician leadership roles and physician mentorship.
- Exceptional track record of effective clinical care, teaching, scholarship, or service.
- Academic healthcare experience, including medical education and research is preferred.
- Business acumen.
