Radiation Oncology

Radiation Oncology is the medical specialty focused on treating cancer using radiation therapy - high-energy radiation which can include X-rays and radioactive substances - to carefully target and destroy cancer cells. Radiation oncologists carefully plan and deliver treatments to shrink tumors or eliminate cancer cells while minimizing harm to surrounding healthy tissue.

Our expert radiation oncology team works with medical and surgical oncologists, oncology nurses and support specialists across Dubai Health facilities, to coordinate the most effective and appropriate treatment for a wide range of cancers. Radiation therapy can be used as a single method of treatment, or can be used in conjunction with other treatments based on the type and progression of the cancer.

Precision cancer treatment

Our radiation oncologists tailor treatment to your specific needs by precisely targeting the tumor or affected area, therefore minimizing the radiation dose to prevent nearby healthy tissue being exposed. Radiation therapy does not instantly kill cancer cells, it works over a period of days and weeks to damage the cancerous cells until they either die or are unable to reproduce. During this period, it's common to feel unwanted side effects including skin irritation, nausea and fatigue - we know that this can be a draining experience, and our team works with you to help reduce and manage your side effects through to your recovery.

It involves the use of various drug treatments such as chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy and hormone therapy to treat cancer. Our medical oncologists work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals across Dubai Health specialties to develop comprehensive treatment plan for cancer patients, monitor their progress and manage any side effects or complications related to treatment.
