His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum attends MBRU Class of 2024 Graduation Ceremony

His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chancellor of the Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU) and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Dubai Health attended the graduation ceremony of MBRU Class of 2024 on Tuesday, June 25 at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed, the graduation ceremony for the Class of 2024 honored 153 graduates from 24 programs offered by the Hamdan Bin Mohammed College of Dental Medicine, the College of Medicine, the College of Nursing and Midwifery, and the Deanship of Graduate Medical Education.

The 2024 graduating class consisted of nearly 40% young Emiratis and graduates from 27 different nationalities, highlighting MBRU's dedication to Dubai Health's broader vision of advancing health for humanity. This demonstrates MBRU's role as an emerging hub for aspiring healthcare professionals from both the UAE and around the globe.

His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed said: As part of Dubai Health, the Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences continues to play a key role in fostering the next generation of innovative medical professionals in Dubai, who are equipped to enhance the quality of healthcare services in the city and adapt to future challenges. This mission aligns perfectly with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to establish Dubai as a global hub for healthcare and education.”

His Highness conveyed his heartfelt congratulations to the Class of 2024 for their achievements and extended his best wishes for their success as they embark on a journey to advance health for humanity

In her welcome address, Her Excellency Dr. Raja Easa Al Gurg, Chairperson of MBRU Council and Dubai Health Board Member, said: “We dedicate this honorable achievement to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, whose visionary leadership in enhancing healthcare for the people of the UAE serves as a profound inspiration and has laid the groundwork for our academic journey toward achieving the highest standards in advancing health for humanity.”

She added: “MBRU was founded under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed eight years ago, underscoring his unwavering commitment to the healthcare sector. His wisdom and generosity have led to the establishment of a globally connected university, founded on a vision to create an innovative, integrated healthcare education and research system that benefits the UAE and beyond.”

Addressing the gathering, His Excellency Khalfan Belhoul, Chief Executive Officer of the Dubai Future Foundation, emphasized the importance of courage as the graduates embark on their careers as doctors, nurses, and dentists. He highlighted that every interaction, diagnosis, and decision has the potential to significantly impact lives.

Belhoul also noted the critical role the graduates now play in a field that can transform lives, emphasizing that it is during times of uncertainty that their courage will be most essential.

Drawing from his experience at the Dubai Future Foundation, he acknowledged that uncertainty and the unknown are inherent to the concept of the future. While the future remains unpredictable, he stressed that together, and with the right tools, they can navigate and make the most of the unknown.

His Excellency Dr. Amer Sharif, President of MBRU and CEO of Dubai Health said, “It is with great pride that we celebrate the achievements of MBRU's graduating Class of 2024. These exceptional graduates are poised to assume leading roles and responsibilities, not only within the UAE but also on an international scale. As students studying within Dubai Health's integrated academic health system, we are proud that our core values have been instilled throughout their studies that will see them endeavor to always put the patient first in their forthcoming professional careers."

Dr. Meznah Ali Rasheed, the graduation commencement speaker and a future physician, said: “My colleagues and I have chosen to prioritize the well-being of others. Within the walls of hospitals, we have witnessed the fragility of life and the resilience of the human spirit. Above all, we have learned what it truly means to be a doctor. My fellow graduates, the world awaits us. We are ready. We are prepared. We are the future.”

The Academic Guidance for Physicians Program helped applicants meet the requirements to enroll in medical residency programs in Canada and the US.

Dubai Health, the first integrated academic health system in Dubai has announced that 100% of its Emirati scholars from the Graduate Medical Education at Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU) have successfully secured training opportunities for medical residency programs in Canada and the US. This notable achievement was facilitated by the Academic Mentorship Program for Physicians, a flagship initiative under the Deanship of Graduate Medical Education at MBRU designed to support trainees in pursuing medical residency training programs in North America.

Professor Alawi Alsheikh-Ali, Deputy CEO and Chief Academic Officer of Dubai Health, and Provost of MBRU, said: “This is a very special moment for Dubai Health, celebrating the success of our young scholars who are pushing the envelope and getting outside of their comfort zones to pursue their graduate medical education abroad, which is a testament to the caliber of medical education, mentorship, and clinical training that is distinctively offered at MBRU, the University within Dubai's first integrated academic health system. This success not only reflects the individual achievements of our young doctors but also underscores Dubai Health's commitment to empowering local medical talent, ensuring that they receive opportunities to excel on the global stage. I'm very proud of these young doctors and very proud of the graduate medical education team that is supporting them.”

Professor Sulaiman AlEmran, Dean of Graduate Medical Education at MBRU, said: “We are honored by the accomplishments of our Emirati scholars and MBRU’s new Academic Mentorship Program for Physicians. These achievements reflect MBRU’s commitment to supporting trainees in their learning journey, aligning with Dubai Health’s goal to cultivate local medical talent in various medical fields,”

“The Deanship of Graduate Medical Education at MBRU implemented a standardized program for academic mentorship, offering comprehensive support to medical trainees aspiring to enroll in medical residency programs in Canada and the US. The initiative included meticulous review and optimization of trainees' academic performances and resumes, coupled with informative workshops addressing application requirements and refining personal interview skills. The program facilitated communication between trainees and prominent Canadian and American institutions, introducing them to Dubai Health, and provided diligent follow-up throughout all application stages and requirements,” he added.

A total of 11 trainees who participated in the academic mentorship program, successfully meeting all admission requirements and criteria for prestigious Canadian and American institutions, including the successful completion of medical licensing exams. The Deanship of Graduate Medical Education oversaw the review process of all documents, submitting them to numerous universities in Canada and the US in collaboration with UAE attachés.

Each applicant excelled in meeting the admission requirements, including personal interviews. Successful candidates have been accepted into several medical residency programs, such as internal medicine, emergency medicine, neurology, ophthalmology, orthopedic surgery, and diagnostic radiology. Notable institutions welcoming MBRU trainees include the University of Texas in the US, as well as Canadian universities such as McGill University, the University of British Columbia, the University of Alberta, the University of Toronto, McMaster University, and Queen's University.

This unprecedented accomplishment of securing 11 training opportunities across Canadian and American institutions is a pinnacle achievement in the UAE's healthcare landscape. Moreover, this success aligns seamlessly with Dubai Health's commitment to investing in developing national healthcare talents, fostering excellence in healthcare services, and championing learning and discovery to impact lives.

Dubai Health, the first integrated academic health system in Dubai, has announced the opening of applications for its graduate training programs offered by the Graduate Medical Education (GME) at Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU).

The GME at MBRU offers an extensive range of training opportunities, including two internship programs, 20 residencies, and 15 fellowships spanning medical, dental, and surgical specialties. These programs have earned accreditation from key regional accreditation bodies, including the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties, the UAE National Institute for Health Specialties, and the Arab Board of Health Specializations.

Professor Sulaiman Alemran, Dean of Graduate Medical Education, commented: “As Dubai’s first academic health system, through the integration of care, learning, discovery, and giving, we have a unique opportunity to create an engine for innovation, connected for the patient - delivered through a culture of collaboration. We believe that through instilling this transformative mindset and uniting as one, we can advance health to new heights of patient-centric excellence. Leveraging the integrated academic health system of Dubai Health, our trainees have the unique opportunity to directly engage with patients across 6 hospitals, 27 ambulatory health centers, and 20 medical fitness centers at with Dubai Health.”

Dr. Rasha Buhumaid, Vice Dean and Designated Institutional Official at Graduate Medical Education and Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at MBRU said, "We offer 250 seats annually for enrollment in our graduate medical education programs. Our programs are designed to equip emerging healthcare professionals with well-rounded skills, ensuring their preparedness for the dynamic professional landscape. Trainees will benefit from experienced and dedicated faculty and clinical educators and partake in innovative research within their specialized field of interest, contributing to advancing medical knowledge. This approach aims to guarantee the quality of healthcare provided by future healthcare professionals, fostering a commitment to excellence and quality in their practice."

Registration for Graduate Medical Education (GME) at MBRU is currently open, with a deadline of March 22nd for residency programs. For internship and fellowship programs, the registration period extends until April 22nd.

Dubai Health, the first integrated academic health system in the emirate, has announced the addition of a new cohort of Emirati nurses to its team. This expansion strengthens healthcare delivery across the system and reflects Dubai Health’s commitment to nurturing and promoting local talent within the healthcare sector.

The new cohort, all graduates holding a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the College of Health Sciences at the University of Sharjah, has been strategically placed across four locations within Dubai Health: Al Jalila Children’s Hospital, Rashid Hospital, Hatta Hospital, and Latifa Hospital.
