What is Anatomic Pathology?
Anatomic Pathology (histopathology) focuses on the studying of cells, tissues and organs to diagnose medical conditions. Pathologists examine patient tissue and cell samples to help identify conditions like infections, cancer or other abnormalities in the body.
Advanced testing and diagnosis
Our Anatomic Pathology team plays a critical role in diagnosing a wide range of health conditions. We carefully examine tissue samples from biopsies and cell specimens from procedures like PAP tests using the most advanced techniques. From identifying infections and abnormalities, to cancer detection, we provide fast and accurate diagnoses to help your doctor or specialist determine the best course of treatment and care for you.
Anatomic Pathology procedures we offer
Histopathology
The examination of stained tissue samples under the microscope using histological techniques to provide specific diagnoses.
Histochemistry
This technique focuses on the chemical composition of tissues and the study of tissue structure using chemical techniques. Using specific stains to visualize and identify chemical substances and understand the biochemical properties and functions of tissues.
Immunohistochemistry (IHC)
Immunohistochemistry is a laboratory technique used to detect specific proteins or antigens in cells and tissue. It involves the use of antibodies that specifically bind to the target antigen (protein) and create a resaction which helps visualize the distribution and localization of biomarkers at the microscopic level. This technique can be used to diagnose and classify lymphomas, skin cancers, prostatic cancers and soft tissue tumors.
Cytopathology
Cytopathology involves the study of individual cells and cellular changes to diagnose conditions, often at an early stage. Unlike histopathology, which examines tissue samples, cytopathology involves the analysis of cells obtained from bodily fluids, aspirates, or swabs to identify abnormalities, such as cancer, infections, and other conditions.
